The story behind StandardsMate

Learn the trade. Do the work. Keep getting better.

StandardsMate brings standards questions, job paperwork and everyday tools into one place for Australian trades. The ambition is to help qualified tradies work with less admin, and help apprentices understand their trade, not just find an answer.

Behind the platform

Meet the founder.

Harrison Mallan

Founder · Licensed electrician and electrical contractor

I went from construction labouring into an electrical apprenticeship, then worked on wind farms around Australia. I've been electrical contracting through Mallcorp for five years, I'm the founder and director of Mallcorp.io and HEM Projects, and I write code for StandardsMate.

Why I built it. On large residential developments, commercial fit-outs and my own development site, I kept losing time hunting for the right information to guide the work and to give our partners a timely answer. StandardsMate is the tool I wanted on those jobs.

The vision

The trade operating system, built around the size of your operation.

Our goal is for StandardsMate to be the operating system for trade businesses, with the features that fit the size of your operation, so you can stay across everything in one place and keep the same system as you grow.

For an apprentice, that means understanding why a job is done a certain way. For a qualified tradie, it means clear answers and less time lost in admin. For a contractor, it means quotes, invoices, compliant paperwork and safety in one place. For a growing business, it means an intelligent system overseeing every step of the business, getting to know how you work and growing with you.

For the next generation of tradies

Learn the why, not just the answer.

Apprentices should have a place to ask questions, break down unfamiliar concepts and connect what they learn in training with the work they see on site. Our aim is to help them build understanding and confidence, not just copy an answer.

Learning tools should support formal training and supervised practical experience, not replace them. The goal is to help apprentices ask better questions, understand the reasoning and keep learning alongside their teachers and qualified supervisors.

How we want to build

Useful comes first.

Make the next step simpler

Useful tools should reduce the effort around a job, not add another layer of admin.

Keep people in control

AI is a starting point, not a substitute for professional judgement. Check the relevant source and review outputs before relying on them.

Improve with the people using it

Real feedback should guide what gets clearer, what gets fixed and what we build next.

Built to keep improving

Your support helps shape what comes next.

Choosing Pro helps fund ongoing development, maintenance and improvements to StandardsMate for everyone. As the platform grows, the aim is to keep making it more useful for the people who rely on it.
